Writing workshops

The aims of these writing activities are:

Mike Jubb teaching
  • To foster a love of words... an enthusiasm for the English language.
  • To show children that it's easier than they thought to get a result.
  • To ensure that it's a result they'll be proud of ['of which they'll be proud', for the grammarians amongst us ;-) ]
  • We want them to be pleased with themselves!

If we can achieve those basic aims consistently, there'll surely be a positive knock-on effect for all of our literacy/communications work. So, please explore the links below to see if there's anything that inspires you. I deliberately haven't suggested ability levels because you might well come up with a way to adapt an idea for a different age-range, or you might decide to use a 'harder' activity and act as scribe yourself.

In 'A Poetry Teacher's Toolkit', you'll find many more 'informal' ideas like these from me, as well as structured lesson plans... each devised at three levels of ability by the widely-published educationalist, Collette Drifte.
